Coming of Age

As the summer finally starts to heat up in the beach town of Newcastle, New South Wales, it seems the trendy crowd of Newcastle have finally found a place to call their 'second home.'
Newcastle has long awaited a place like this. Although Merewether Beach has always been a mecca for surfers, trendy girls who love to tan and the upper-class families (Merewether Baths) Merewether Surfhouse has stamped Merewether Beach to be the official place to be seen at.

With a kiosk and cafe on the first floor and a bar and restaurant on the second floor there is place for everyone to catch-up with friends or colleagues over a coffee, drink or meal. Timber tabletops and slate tiled floors maintain a minimalist vibe, but the ambience is quickly modernised by the wall-to-wall glass that provides world-class, ocean views.

I ate a panini filled with roast eggplant, mozzarella, peppers and chilli which was accompanied by french fries. The panini itself was quite cute. It was dainty and provided a certain elegant touch to the cafe. Although, I was bitterly disappointed at the lack of vegetable filling in the roast vegetable panini, I would recommend Merewether Surfhouse as the place to catch-up with friends or colleagues over a coffee or drink. Prices are fairly standard for the location and ambience with the cafe prices around $13.5 for a main meal and $4 for a large coffee.
